DIY| DYEING YOUR HAIR WITH HENNA *Remake*
29-12-2018
Hello Cherries!
This "do it yourself" (remake) brings you to my personal experience with using henna hair dye. In addition, I have included the warning points, points of interest and the frequently asked questions from the previous "do it yourself". I had to change the answer of one question, because I now dye with henna longer and the question was about how long I dyed my hair with the hair color.
What is different in this remake is that I also show a different color. A color that I have been using for half a year now. For the rest, most things have remained the same. You are really going to see the difference between 1 tint. So there I also answered a question what I received in my mailbox.
Before I go further, it's very important that you go through the following warnings and points of interest carefully! Following this "do it yourself" is at your own risk!
WARNINGS AND POINTS OF INTEREST:
- Henna hair coloring is permanent!
- Henna takes different on anyone's hair! So you can't always expect the color on the packaging.
- Avoid henna hair coloring if you have a too warm tone in your hair or too much red pigment!
- You can't use henna hair coloring on hair that has already been dyed with chemical hair dye.
This also applies the other way around! You can't use chemical hair dye over henna hair coloring!
In other words. You should let it all grow out! - Avoid henna hair coloring if you have ever had an allergic reaction to henna.
If you don't know if you are allergic to henna, carry out a test first! - Always be advised by a specialist in a health shop or organic store when it comes to the color!
- Never use henna hair coloring on the eyebrows. This can cause blindness!
The reason why I chose henna hair coloring is, because of the fact that henna doesn't damage the hair. The difference between chemical hair dye (or hair dye from the hairdresser) and henna hair coloring is that henna doesn't penetrate the hair. This is the case with chemical hair dyes, which can cause damage to the hair! (The damage doesn't have to be with everyone, it varies per person and per hair type!) Henna lays a layer over the hair and ensures that nothing bad from the air can penetrate the hair. This also saves a lot with caring for your hair!
One and a half year (December 2018)
Yes, you can!
You can indeed use henna, but it will not take the part that has yet to be grown / cut out. It will take your natural hair, though.
5) If I find the color of the color chart too dark and the other too light. What can I do best?
You can combine the two colors. It's important to know that they must be from the same collection! So for example 4N + 5N or 6G + 5G. There shouldn't be more than one number in between. Take a measuring cup of 2cl. For example, fill one half with 4N and the other half with 5N. Then mix this with the cream. Throw away the other hair coloring! Unfortunately you can't use that anymore!
I always use only 1 package. (You can count more on 2 to 3 packages with very long and thick hair.)
This is a question that I am not sure to answer. I would advise you to go to the hairdresser and ask for it. It depends on whether your extensions are made of real human hair or synthetic hair. If the tone in your hair is different than in the extensions, I would personally advise against it. However, I would recommend that if you want to start with extensions to first dye your real hair and then go to the hairdresser to find matching coloured extensions.
Packaging with colors that I have used (2017 to the present)
Junie 2017 - June 2018 '6G Dark Gold Blond'
This color comes from the Golden collection of Naturtint which means that the colors from this collection will give a golden sheen. I was personally advised to keep the G and N (what stands for natural) collection, but I thought the Golden collection would suit me better. Naturtint also has many collections and colors to choose from. So let the experts advise you!
This color never came to me as dark gold blond. However it became exactly this color in the summer, because of the sun. Ehm ... I don't know how to describe it. With me it actually came out as auburn with a super golden shine that went towards the light brown. Actually a combination of 3 colors. I thought it was very nice. That's why I kept it for a year, but I had to give it up eventually. My outgrowth became increasingly darker of itself and eventually noticable . If this was not the case then I think I had this color for another year or two.
June 2018 - present '5G Light Gold Chestnut'
Last summer I went a bit darker. You have just read the reason for this :)
To be honest, I was really frightened to try it out because it really seemed too dark. Fortunately, the color came out exactly as it had indicated on the packaging. I also received a lot of compliments when I showed my new hair color or walked around with it. Everyone found it even better to see me with it than my previous hair color. It seemed better matching to my eyes, it looked much more natural and many also said that it really was me. So apparently I did very well, hahahaha! XD
I'm still very satisfied with this color on me and I don't see myself changing it at the moment. I think I will keep this color for a long time. Longer than a year for sure! Should there ever be a different color then you will find it updated here! :)
Contents of each package (This is an old photo from when I still had 6G):
- Colorant 60ml
- Color developer 60ml
- Color fixing shampoo 15ml
- Nutrideep protective conditioner 15ml
- Anti aging CC cream 15ml (I don't use this myself, but it's recommended for women with older or fragile hair)
- Protective gloves
- Package leaflet
My personal instructions and tips!
Tip 1. Vaseline is your best friend! -- Henna attaches naturally to the skin. So make sure you rub the neck, ears, hairline and your arms with Vaseline!
Tip 2. Cotton pads are a way to go! -- Use clean cotton pads to correct mistakes. Get the dye away from the neck, ears and just before the hairline.
Tip 3. Old-fashioned? Sometimes the best! (Golden tip!) - I explain this below ^.^
My personal golden tip is ... Go mix the hair dye in the old-fashioned way. Why? Henna hair dye is different from normal hair dye. Normal hair dye easily comes out of the accompanying bottle, but henna quickly gets thick of itself. This makes it more difficult for you to squeeze it out of the bottle. I was done with the bottle after 3 times of use and I bought a set at the nearest barber shop. If you are not in possession of a set, but you have bought this product (or from the other brands) then an old bowl is also fine! As long as you obviously have a hair dye brush!
1. Take the bottle with the color developer and unscrew the cap. Shake the entire contents in the bowl. Make sure you have managed to get the most cream out, because that's really important with this product!
2. Carefully add the colorant. Try to apply the colorant in the middle, so that you can mix more easily.
3. Start to rotate in the middle of the bowl with the brush. When the colorant is nicely distributed, you can normally stir.
4. Mix until you have the darkest color that your chosen color can give (see photo 4). Now the hair dye is ready for use! ^.^
As for the hair dyeing ... I do it all by myself. Everyone dyes the hair in his or her own way. Some also leave it to someone else. It's just how you want it. What I do myself is, I start in the middle where my natural separation lies. I put the dye on it. Then I start with one half. I continue to make separations, paint and then skip. Then you get the "side hair" look which was very popular in 2012/2013. When I have done one half completely, I skip all the dyed hair and start again from the middle. Then I do the other half. Then I bend my head forward and I do the line at my neck. Also just behind the ears and on my hairline. I then spread the remaining hair dye over my hair as if I were shampooing my hair.
I know it may sound strange, but for me this is the best way to dye my hair and since I wear glasses for long distance, I have to do everything by feeling. Of course I'm a year and a half further and I know now how and what to do with my hair ^.^
Henna hair dye should be left the first time for 45 minutes. Then you can reduce it to 30 minutes. Personally, I always leave it for 45 minutes so that I know for sure that it has taken my hair well. Then you can wash it away using the provided shampoo. Make sure you rinse everything well. The conditioner and CC cream is optional. I don't use the CC cream myself. Only the shampoo and conditioner, but if you find that your hair needs extra care and/or you have fragile hair, I recommend to use it. That's what made it special! :)
So this was the remake of the old version! A lot shorter and tidier. In the old version you saw pictures with before and after the use of the color 6G, but since you almost always see my hair color in the reviews, I thought I could leave it away :)
Hopefully you will find the remake just as cool as the first one and I'll see you in 2019 with more reviews when my old products are finished! :)
