SABRINACHALLENGE | FAVORITE STEAM PC GAMES
06-11-2021

A MEGA HEY to all my Cherries and new cool people who discovered my blog! In this post, I'm bringing out my super cool, inner gamer, as I've been challenged to share with you my favorite PC games that can be found on STEAM.

The games below are my all time favorite games that I have been playing for years and come back to every time. I think everyone should play them once! I'm going to tell you what the games are about, what I love about them (but also not / points for improvement) and for whom I recommend the games.

Since my current laptop is used more for business, my laptop is not optimal enough to play the "roughest" games, for example. So I'm going to talk mainly about the favorite games that can be played easily on these types of laptops, without crashing. However, I play the "roughest" games on my boyfriend's computer who was made for it XD

PS I don't have a number 1 favorite in the list below. It is in alphabetical order and all games are supported with the English language. Not all games below are horror/thriller related. I mostly enjoy playing horror games myself, because most of them aren't predictable and have their own story.

LET'S GO! ! !

Game Titles (complete series!): Deponia || Chaos on Deponia || Goodbye Deponia || Deponia Doomsday

Developer: Daedalic Entertainment

Published: August 7, 2012 || November 6, 2012 || October 18, 2013 || March 1, 2016

Top Genres: Humor, Adventure, Puzzle, Indie, Point & Click

Price on Steam: Deponia €9.99 || Chaos on Deponia €19.99 || Goodbye Deponia €19.99 || Deponia Doomsday €19.99 (2021 prices)

Plot:

"In Deponia, the world has fallen into a vast garbage dump, where grumpy Rufus lives his miserable life. He is part of the lowest social class, doomed to spend his life between (literally) mountains of garbage. He hopes at an entrance to the world of the rich who live in a floating city high above the clouds. Fate seems to favor the snobbish good-for-nothing when one day an attractive lady named Goal from the higher realms falls down on top of one of the garbage heaps. Rufus decides to help the young woman by bringing her back to her fiancee. When he finds out that Goal's fiancee is his image, he hatches a diabolical plan to gain access to the overworld. Things only turn out differently than planned because he develops feelings for the beauty. These feelings get in the way of his usual unscrupulousness and also the successors. Help Rufus, the poor boy from the garbage dump, to conquer the girl from heaven. Only with this rich girl of his dreams he may be able to escape from Deponia and unexpectedly save the planet as well."

All together: "HUZZAH!!!!! Deponia is the best!" These games, which eventually become a complete story, are really MEGA hilarious. I've never played such a hilarious series of games in my entire life so far. I laughed so hard at the different kinds of humor in these games. Also keep coming back to Deponia. Not only for the humor in general, but also for the puzzles. Despite the fun story and hilarious characters, these games really make you think. It keeps your mind sharp. In this series of games you have to be able to think both logically and not logically. I recommend the entire Deponia series for people who like humorous games and puzzles.

My opinion on the parts of the Deponia series:

Deponia:

Deponia is the very first game in the Deponia series and opens the beautiful story about the clumsy, but very clever Rufus. I could play this game a bit from the beginning, because I had played the demo before. So I kind of knew what the game was going to look like in the beginning and what to do. Of course, as a very young teenager, I didn't understand the kind of humor yet. Compared to the subsequent games, this is the shortest game in the series, but also one of the most fun in my opinion. Why ? Most of the characters you will get to know are very important. This also makes it so easy and more fun for the upcoming games. I am also a big fan of the game play and style. Everything is so great and beautifully drawn. I really took the time to enjoy the art. You just see in this game and also with the successors that the artists have taken the time with the games and managed to develop everything well. Really awesome!

Favorite Huzzah: "Huzzah, who's gonna care?"

Favorite achievement : Loving the truth

Chaos on Deponia:
This game is next to Deponia Doomsday, the longest game in the entire series. Chaos on Deponia is even more gritty than its predecessor and immediately captivates the player by letting the player go deeper into the story. It mainly takes place in a kind of harbor / skippers village, where you will finish the story after playing Deponia. At least....that's what you think. Also in this game you will experience a lot of humor and strong puzzles. Despite the whole picture, this is my least favorite game in the entire series. I can't quite put my finger on the sore spot, but it didn't appeal to me that much compared to the other games in the series. Ironically, this is the most important game in the entire series, as it really starts here. I think you just have to love this part.

Favorite Huzzah : "Huzzah, with booze and so forth"

Favorite achievement : Tease the dragon

Goodbye Deponia:

Fooled! This isn't the last game in the Deponia series (which the creators would have you believe at the time!) Goodbye Deponia is actually the second last game. Out of all the games associated with this series, I find this one to be the easiest and most comical of them all. It's really my big favorite and I have a lot of love for this game! I think this one is really AWESOME! Just laughed so hard that my boyfriend actually looked around like, "Are you still okay, because it definitely doesn't seem like it?" XD

Favorite Huzzah : "Huzzah, because breaks are for wimps"

Favorite achievement: Long time no see

Deponia Doomsday:
Finally we come to the end of Deponia. This is the longest game in the entire series. Which means not only a lot of humor and a trip into the past between ex-girlfriend Toni and Rufus, but also a lot of puzzles to solve! Can you change the fate of Deponia without destroying the entire planet? In Deponia Doomsday you will learn the consequences of your own actions. What is the right thing to do and what you should be able to let go of. For yourself or for someone else? Everything seems like a dream to Rufus in this game, but has this all been a dream? With the help of McChronicle, a quirky scientist who discovered strange time anomalies, Rufus discovers that some time travelers from the future have carelessly parked their time machine near him. Just imagine if this amazing technology fell into the wrong hands!

This game has the best puzzles in my opinion and some of them are even timed which makes it even more difficult. However, at times I found it unnecessary to use a time span, because sometimes you didn't know what to do in that scene. So after 2 or 3 times, you only found out what to do. So that was kind of a downside, but that just makes it more difficult.

Favorite Huzzah: "Huzzah, he's back"

Favorite achievement : And everything comes full circle

Oh, yes....Did I mention that his ex-girlfriend, Toni is my cartoon spirit animal? I mean...Take no shit or get a hit!

Game Title: Edna & Harvey : The Breakout (+ anniversary edition)

Developer: Daedalic Entertainment

Published: June 6, 2008 || December 4, 2019 (anniversary edition)

Top Genres: Adventure, Indie, Humor, Funny, Point & Click Price on Steam: Original version €14.99 || Anniversary edition €19.99 (prices 2021) Pay attention! You can buy both in a bundle for 1 price!

Plot:
"Guide young Edna and her talking stuffed rabbit Harvey on a crazy attempt to escape her padded cell. Embark on a bizarre journey through the insane asylum and well beyond the brick walls. At the beginning, young Edna wakes up in the lined cell of an insane asylum with no memory of her past. She has no idea how she got there, but one thing is for sure, she wants out! She feels perfectly healthy after all - and her talking cuddly bunny, Harvey, totally agrees. They escape and encounter their most bizarre fellow patients - from the man in the bee costume to the pseudo-Siamese twins Hoti and Moti - but Dr. Marcel, head of the asylum, does everything he can to prevent Edna from escaping. What is it that he planned for her? And why was her memory erased? Gradually, Edna regains her memory of the time before her detention in her cell..."

Truth to be told....I LOVE EDNA & HARVEY! Been a huge fan of it for as long as I can remember! The main character of this story, Edna is exactly how you imagine and expect her. An unpopular girl with obvious mental problems. Yet super nice, funny, brave and compassionate. The story is well put together and sad at the same time. By the end of this story, you will fully understand Edna and how she went mad. At the end of this story (on behalf of Edna) you are also faced with a difficult choice. What will you ultimately choose?

The story is exactly the same in both the original and the anniversary version. Only the biggest difference is clearly how everything has gotten better drawn as it was re-released 10 years later. Edna is supposed to be a teenage girl in the story, but because of the old drawings she actually looks more like a young adult woman. In the anniversary version, Edna looks more like a teenage girl and the characters from the story are much better drawn. Because the anniversary version is better drawn, the game can be played more easily. I myself am a fan of both versions and I don't really pay attention to the way something is drawn. If you are a person who likes better quality, then you better go for the anniversary version. Below are a few comparisons. I also give you my favorite soundtracks.

Game Title: Edna & Harvey : Harvey's New Eyes

Developer: Daedalic Entertainment

Published: August 26, 2011

Top Genres: Dark Humor, Adventure, Point & Click

Price on Steam: €19.99 (price 2021)

Plot:
"LILLIIIIIIIIII! STOP THAT NOW! Shy schoolgirl Lilli has a hard time in the convent. Only her imagination helps her escape the strict rule of Mother Superior, but when her best friend Edna disappears under mysterious circumstances, Lilli must rise above her own circumstance and embark on an arduous journey to not only get her friend back, but also face her subconscious fears. Lilli, a young girl at a convent school, is the protagonist of Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes. The best behaved girl in the world, she carries out all her duties diligently, however dishonest they may be. There is something tragic and terrifying about her innocent, imperturbable way of carrying out the orders of others. Every grudge, every childish disobedience is buried deep under a seemingly impenetrable shell of sweetness. But how long will it be before this shell will burst?"

OOGIE.....WOOGIEEEEEE......Harvey's New Eyes is the sequel to "The breakout" and the last chapter in this story to date. Like its predecessor, Harvey's New Eyes has been met with very positive reviews on all platforms. In this game you will learn to master your fears. You don't always have to do what other people expect of you. You don't always have to do everything people want you to do and you certainly don't have to be what people want you to be. Help Lilli with this and you will find her faithful friend Edna again. At the end of this game you will come face to face with an old acquaintance. What are you going to do? Do you leave everything behind to become the obedient girl again or move on with a new life? The choice is yours!

Game Title: Fran Bow (Warning! This game is going to work very much on your mentality. Age range 16+!!!)

Developer: Killmonday Games AB

Published: August 27, 2015

Top Genres: Psychological Horror, Deep Mental Working, Story Rich, Point & Click

Price on Steam: €14.99 (price 2021) - TIP! Watch out for Halloween discounts.... I bought this game for €3.74 which is very different from the original price.

Plot:
"Fran Bow is a very creepy adventure game that tells the story of Fran, a young girl who struggles with a mental disorder and an unfair fate. After witnessing the horrific and mysterious loss of her parents, cut to pieces in their home, Fran runs into the woods with her only friend, Mr. Midnight, a black cat that Fran had previously received as a gift from her parents. In the woods, Fran is shocked by the loss of her parents and when she recovers, she is in Oswald Asylum, a cramped psychiatric facility for children, and Mr. Midnight is nowhere to be found. After a dream about her beloved cat, Fran decides to escape from the mental institution to find him and return home to Aunt Grace her only living relative".

I only have one word for this game and that is WOW! This is probably the very best psychological horror game I've ever played! I'm also a huge fan of this game. So freaking bad that I dressed up as Fran Bow once for Halloween XD

I actually knew Fran Bow from the very beginning when this game came out and played it often at a friend's house at the time, but never got past two chapters. Finally I decided to play the game again many years later and managed to finish the game.

If you like horror games or want to try them out, I definitely recommend playing this one! This game is just so good that it will really blow your mind and make you realize a lot of things that actually happen in real life or can be part of you! Hold tight to your heart! This game is pure horror and you are literally playing against the devil. When your doctor's name is Dr. Marcel...Run for your life!

VOLUME AT 100%

Game Title: Missed Messages

Developer: Angela He (Also known as zephybite or zephyo)

Published: May 30, 2019

Top Genres: Indie, Adventure, Simulation, Casual

Price on Steam: FREE

Plot:

" 'go gf's iPhone' drops you - accepting or not? A game about love, life, and memes. All three manage to be realistic, something that's not easy to do. A shift in perspective can change everything. Warning: mentions of suicide and self-harm. Don't play if you don't feel comfortable!"

Truth to be told...I've been a fan of Angela He's work for years! I really like her art and drawings. Her style really appeals to me! I've played her oldest games (which can still be found on Newgrounds) back in the days when the games came out and found them all well put together, generally realistic and opinion-packed, but Missed Messages remains my favorite to this day because the story of this game corresponds to a true event in my life. Of course I wasn't a roommate with my good friend, but we are close that we can sense when something is wrong with the other. No matter how far we are from each other. He's actually doing really well now! He has completely turned his life around and has achieved real success! He is still thankful to this day that I was the only one who really wanted to listen to him and help make him mentally better.

This game impressed me a lot and my first ending was the best ending (HOPE). Of course...because I knew what to do. I actually relived everything in the game (which was pretty intense for me), but there are also other endings to explore that don't end well. You can also discover those endings when you know the consequences of your first choices. I think that in this game people start to learn the value of good communication and listening. You will meet your true self and perhaps you will see how you deal with people in a certain situation or how you would react in such situation. The people whereof you think that don't need help are often the people who need help the most.

When I saw that 81.3% had gotten the worst of the worst ending, I was really like....I lost my faith in humanity! (T_T)

Game Title: Tell Me Why

Developer: Dontnod Entertainment

Published: August 27, 2020

Top Genres: Adventure, Videogame, Mystery, Drama, LHBTQ+, Choices

Price on Steam: PLEASE NOTE! Chapter 1 is FREE!, Chapters 2 + 3 aren't for free! Complete set is €8,39 (Price 2021)

Plot:

"Tell Me Why is the latest story adventure game from DONTNOD Entertainment, the studio behind the beloved franchise, Life is Strange. In this intimate mystery, reunited twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan use their supernatural bond to unravel the memories of their loving but difficult childhoods. Set in the beautiful small town of Alaska, Tell Me Why features lifelike characters, adult themes, and gripping choices. As you evoke memories of the past, your choices will affect the twins' relationship, determine the strength of their bond, and determine the course of their lives." NB! This game contains adult themes such as drug reference, mild blood, strong language and violence! Don't play if you don't feel comfortable! Not suitable for people under 21 years!"

This game is the best video game I've played to date! It grabs the player and draws the player more and more into the story of Tyler and Alyson Ronan. It also keeps the player thinking and the mystery is really exciting! What I especially love about the game are the beautiful locations and how everything is drawn. It's breathtaking! I really took the time in some parts of the story to take a good look at everything and enjoy the art. All characters have their own characteristics and feel realistic. When I finished the game I was really crying, hahahaha! My boyfriend was sitting across me at the time and was really like, "What games do you play anyway?" and I was like, "Games with a deep meaning. Like who is the dumb b**** crying now because of a game?" XD

Tyler struggles to trust people because of his difficult childhood and upbringing. The only person he wants and can trust is his twin sister, Alyson. He protects Alyson with his life. Tyler is outgoing and polite, but has a tendency to shut people out if they get too close or bring up a sensitive topic. Tyler describes himself as a terrible actor and isn't afraid to confront people if they behave intolerantly. He seems to love nature, because he often looks at his surroundings and the horizon. He can stare at it for a long time. He also still likes to tease Alyson here and there. He's a "daddy joke" kind of joker.

Alyson can be a bit reserved and likes to plan things in notebooks. She is more serious than Tyler and wants things to be right. Alyson is the type that does what needs to be done. She can be uncomfortable around new people or old friends, but sometimes reveals a more snarky and sarcastic side. In general, Alyson is caring, kind and compassionate to those she loves. She really wants the people she cares about to get along. Alyson has a passion for DIY projects and crafts. She also likes astronomy. Besides her hobbies, she likes to hang out with her good friend Michael and one of Eddy's colleagues.

If I had to compare myself to Tyler and Alyson, I'm more of an Alyson. I can see many aspects of myself in her. The only thing I'm missing in life is an Eddy Brown XD Furthermore, I really see myself living in such a house as the Ronan house. In the forest, near the mountains and a beautiful river....I can really see myself in that one day.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Game Title: The Last Door (+ Season 2) - TIP! Buy both seasons in the collector's edition. This makes a huge difference in price!

Developer: The Game Kitchen

Published: March 15, 2013

Top Genres: Pixels, Adventure, Horror, Puzzle

Price on Steam: €19.98 (If you buy both seasons) Separately €9.99 (Price 2021)

Plot:

"Feel what it's like to be alone in the dark with this low-res, high-suspense point-and-click horror adventure, winner of multiple Best Games of the Year awards. When Jeremiah Devitt receives a letter from his old classmate Anthony Beechworth with a hidden, cryptic message, he knows something is wrong in Victorian England. His journey to an abandoned mansion is just the beginning as he begins to remember a long-buried secret from his childhood, discovers things that was not allowed to know and opens doors that should have remained closed..."

In general I have never been a fan of pixel games, but this game is an exception for me. The story of The Last Door is quite interesting for me and scary enough to keep going. I eventually became a big fan of it. What has always interested me is the character Alexandre du Pré. He is not the main character in this story, but he plays a major role in it. I think it's so clever how clever the creators have made this character. How a person can disappear for years, of which little is known, mysterious, few people know him and yet all are very afraid of him (with good reason!). It doesn't even seem logical, but somehow it does. When you start playing the whole story, the puzzle pieces slowly come into place. A really great story!!!
