Plot:
"Crystal Story is about a group of mercenaries who want to catch a wanted criminal for someone to get rich. They have to go through the Evil Cave, a deep cave with many floors to reach her. Can you make it to the end?"

The Crystal Story series is one of my favorite games of all time. Both the original and the successor!  (^.^)

The story about these mercenaries is interesting and hilarious at the same time. Each character has its own characteristics and feels realistic. For example, Tristam is the best fighter of the group and with his sword he is the strongest. He is also the most "normal" out of the group. Kaeli is always bored and doesn't like to talk. She may be the slowest out of the group, but her bow definitely tells you different things. She is a very good healer and the strongest in the group in terms of magic!

Phoebe is the most chaotic out of the group and loves her hammer very much. She is very positive and sees benefits even in the worst situations. Oh yeah! Make sure you don't run into her. She loves to swing her hammer and she might just knock you out! Remember one thing about her. HER CAPS LOCK IS NOT BROKEN! ONLY HER SHIFT BUTTON!

Finally, we have a real ladies man in our midst....Reuben....Reuben loves ladies and gold. He does everything he can to become the richest man on earth and get gold. He really sees himself as the most handsome of the whole group. Also in Crystal Story 2 you will see his hilarious comments passing by. Despite his high level of self-esteem, he is good with the spear and magic. You can always count on him for magic. Reuben and Kaeli are good at stoking each other, but at the end of the day they are good at combining their magic.

The original version of Crystal Story was published on Newgrounds in 2011 and was one of the best played games of that year at the time. A big difference between the original and the Steam version is the style. The original version was made in cartoon style, which can also be seen in the sequel, called Crystal Story II. The Steam version is based more on the well-known "gamer" keyboard. The backgrounds and game design are purely made with computer, while the characters have remained cartoon.

I'm not a big fan of the steam version myself. It took me a really long time to get used to the style, because I was previously very familiar with the cartoon style of this game. There are also a number of things wrong with the Steam version. For those who know the original version, like me, know when and how to Tristam, Kaeli, Phoebe and Reuben can attack the monsters. Also how the monsters can attack the gang. This has been changed in the Steam version. It doesn't even look like the old game play. Of course the story has stayed the same (which is also very important before people start playing Crystal Story II), but the whole game design is poorly made in my opinion. It is not easy to find items or gold to make the characters strong. It takes a while until you know what you can and cannot do with certain items.

Another problem that I have with this version is that the monsters' bars are not always completely full before they attack. In this game you can see when a monster usually has time to attack you. These bars need to be completely full before they start attacking you and often this is not even the case. I just find this version of the game really weirdly put together. I prefer the original version, as Crystal Story II was made.

Although the Steam version is not as great as the original version, the game is important to play. The story is important anyway, because you can benefit from it when you play the sequel.

Game Title: Crystal Story II

Developer: Emmanuel Salva Cruz

Published: February 6, 2015

Top Genres: Indie, RPG, Adventure, Single Player

Price on Steam: €2.99 (price 2021)

Plot:

"Crystal Story II is the sequel with a completely new story to Crystal Story original. A turn-based RPG that follows the story of a young dragon on his quest to defeat an evil witch. He must find allies to help him on his journey and save the world from the impending invasion, as well as some old acquaintances who know the Wicked Witch all too well! Can you make it to the end?"

Crystal Story II is the more adventurous and hilarious sequel with a completely new story to the original Crystal Story. The story follows a new, young generation on an adventure to defeat the evil witch.

The story begins when Lina sees a comet. However, this comet turns out to be a young dragon named D. Lina is not afraid of D and kindly offers herself to help him on his quest. She is the young dragon's first ally and later becomes a good friend of his. Together they look for more allies.

D is the most special out of the group because of his appearance. He has a tail. He is brave, but gets anxious quickly and is time-oriented. He wants to do everything he can to save the world. Furthermore, he often thinks out loud or talks to himself when alone and this often leads to funny or unexpected answers. He is very selfless and much of an introvert; argue that he should fight the Dargon King alone, while Lina, Mari and Kaz all disagree.

Lina works on herself to become the best good thief ever. She dreams of one day being the leader of her own good gang of thieves! Lina has a bold, optimistic personality. She can be compared to Phoebe from the original Crystal Story, but less chaotic. When she encounters danger, she tends to make jokes, while other party members react seriously or with shock. She is also the most sarcastic out of the group and likes to tease mean people.

Mari is the youngest of the group and a very good shooter! Despite her skill with firearms, she is very kind-hearted and emotional. She often regrets attacking before combat and apologizes to enemies after such attacks. This sometimes annoys Kaz, who just enjoys attacking enemies. She becomes a close ally throughout the story and seems to become good friends with Kaz who is the complete opposite of her.

Kaz is the former prince of Necropolis and had authority over the demons. Unfortunately, he lost it, causing all demons to destroy the forest and earth. He is overthrown by the evil witch and his nemesis Sylandra. Together with D, Lina and Mari, he takes back his throne during the story, but decides not to accept his title as prince anymore. His only goal seems to be saving the world with his new friends. He seems very fond of Orrora, but secretly seems to have more feelings for Mari. He tries to appear cool to her and becomes defensive when an old acquaintance from Crystal Story flirts with her.

Fortunately, this game has kept its original style on Steam and is made entirely out of cartoon style. This is the same cartoon style and original game design that the original Crystal Story was made with. So this is how it should be! After all my years with this game I have never found any downsides and the story is long which makes the game more fun and you can just go in many directions. You can continue playing even after the story. There are so many characters and areas to explore. Lots of hilarious cutscenes and moments too. This game is simply a must if you like point and click as well as playing with keyboard. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
