Hey Cherries, and for those who don't know me, my name is Sabrina and I go through blogging life as SabrinaLaCherry. Welcome to my review about the Maybelline New York Grippy Serum with 2% Niacinamide.
Let's take a look at the product!
Packaging and texture
The serum comes in a pink glass dropper bottle that allows you to easily keep track of when the product is running low. The cap is, of course, the dropper used to apply the product. Inside the bottle, the serum appears to have a light pink color, but this is not the case. The product is transparent. The texture is how a serum should be. There is little to add to that. Regarding the packaging, I can say that I really appreciate that they designed it so you can see the product running low. This way, you know immediately when to repurchase the product if you are satisfied with it.
How it works
Maybelline New York reveals the serum's purpose in the product name. The goal is to ensure that your makeup stays on the face longer than it does without a primer. It attempts to give the face more grip on the makeup you apply. The second goal is to show a clear difference between daytime makeup with and without primer. In this case, their own product.
Maybelline has added an extra ingredient to the serum: Niacinamide. This substance strengthens the skin barrier, inhibits inflammation (should this be a skin problem), and specifically retains moisture. Furthermore, it balances sebum production and camouflages pores, pigmentation spots, redness, and fine lines. Since it is not present in a high percentage in this product, you naturally shouldn't expect too much from it—otherwise my redness would disappear like snow in the sun—but I can say that it helps with visible pores. I notice that it camouflages my pores by making them slightly smaller.
In the first series of photos, I only applied the serum to my face. It feels a bit sticky, which is exactly how it is supposed to be to achieve Maybelline's goal! In the second series of photos, I applied my makeup.

On the day I took the photos, I had a very long day ahead of me. I took photos in the evening, but it was so dark that the effect wasn't clearly visible. So, unfortunately, I can't publish those photos. BUT I took photos again the day after, when I was lucky enough with the daylight. So I can publish those. The effect was the same on both that day and the day it was so dark. So take a look at the result below after wearing the serum under my makeup for a long day.
Result
The result is beyond my expectations, and I still feel that way after 2 months of use! To be honest, I was skeptical when I finally tried the product for the first time. I honestly thought it was just another overhyped product, but no, it is just normally hyped. In my opinion, the hype is justified! It largely blurs my pores, and I don't need to blot my face with makeup blotting paper much during the day. My makeup still stays in place beautifully. Normally, my redness is very visible at the end of the day, but that is not the case with this product, and that is not just because I wear a CC cream for redness; without primer, it always showed through strongly at the end of the day.
Personal opinion and score
I give the product a personal score of 9/10! Absolutely a TOP product and affordable! This is a primer I would buy again in a drugstore anywhere in the world.
