NIVEA Sun Facial Sunscreen SPF50+
21-11-2021
Hello Cherries and welcome to my review of the NIVEA Sun Facial Sunscreen with SPF50+!
For my summer holiday to Portugal, I was looking for a sunscreen that was both moisturizing and protective. I read a lot about this sunscreen online and came across it at the time at Lidl on a sale for €5 (it normally costs €14. price might differ per country)
At the time, Lidl only sold these with German packaging. So my tube on the right is largely provided with the German language. My German isn't exactly correct, but I can get a few things out of what it says.
Casing, texture and fragrance
The casing of this product contains the typical NIVEA colours; dark blue and dark yellow. It's not special. You can easily recognize this product within the NIVEA line. What's useful to know is that this product is a squeeze tube. The casing is not equipped with a handy pump. So you have to weigh the dosage by squeezing the tube.
The scent of this product is a typical NIVEA sunscreen scent. I really come across the smell in all NIVEA sunscreens that I have had to date. I don't think it's an unpleasant smell, but people do recognize this and the scent remains on the face for a while after application.
The texture of this product is somewhat on the thick side and I can understand this, because this product is supposed to ensure that the skin remains hydrated. It is very important that you continue to spread this product well, because unfortunately it leaves a white vague behind. So if you want this gone, you have to keep smearing. Furthermore, the finish is very sticky for a while, which I don't like. So I mainly wore this product when I was wearing my hair in a bun, but the stickyness disappears after a while and you notice that the cream has quickly absorbed into the skin.
Before I continue with what it has done to my face and whether this product is safe to use under makeup, I will first go over the description and promises of NIVEA with you.
NIVEA says about this product: "NIVEA SUN Facial Sun Cream provides highly effective UVA and UVB protection against the harmful effects of the sun. Prevents premature skin aging, fine lines and wrinkles caused by the sun. Reduces the risk of skin irritation from the sun and moisturizes the skin. The cream is also water-resistant, so anyone can easily enter the water without rinsing the cream off the face. However, it is advisable to continue to apply after swimming for optimal protection against the sun."
As for the promises in general, I'm very satisfied with the effective UVA and UVB protection. During the heat of the summer, this product protected my face very well and I wasn't burned at all! Very moisturizing! I have redness in my face. As a result, I'm more sensitive to sunburn in my face and this product has really counteracted it very well. In this area, the product is very effective!
I'm also very satisfied with the promise of water resistance. The sunscreen managed to last a very long time. So definitely recommended for the days when you go swimming!
The promise of early prevention of skin aging is always something I have mixed feelings about, because the term "skin aging" is broad. Of course, it is well known that excessive sun exposure can prematurely age the skin, but everyone is exposed to the sun differently. I myself try not to expose myself excessively in it, so my skin will (hopefully) not get old too soon, but everyone also has their own collagen content in the skin. One has it more than the other and personally I don't think that sunscreen prevents skin aging for 100%.
Overall, this product is really good, but I did find some cons:
1) The product cannot be used under makeup. Makeup will become greasy and eventually melt. The product also changes the finish of your makeup, so that your makeup can be transferred to your fingers when you touch the face.
2) The product is sticky. It is best to use this product when your hair is tied up in a ponytail, bun or braid, because the sticky feeling will last for a while before it is completely absorbed by the face.
3) Blocking the pores. I'm not 100% sure if it's because of this product or my skin. Of course, sunscreens always block the pores, but I've never had it worse than with this product. In the beginning I thought this product was really great on my skin, but after a while my skin got a lot of impurities. Especially thick spots. So I decided to stop using this cream for a while to see if it was really the cream. Summer has always been unkind to me when it comes to impurities. So I have a faster chance in that season for impurities anyway, but when I started using the product again it seemed like I got more of impurities than I had.
My personal opinion and score
I recommend the NIVEA Sun Facial Sunscreen SPF50+ for anyone who is looking for a very moisturizing and effective sunscreen against UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Especially for anyone who can get burned quickly in the face or where the first burn comes in the face. In terms of hydration and effectiveness, this product is a must have for in the bag! I don't recommend this product for those seeking an under makeup sunscreen or prone to blemishes/acne on the face.
Personally, I wouldn't buy this product again as it blocks my pores more than any other sunscreen I've tried and it doesn't do my skin any good in that area, but it has made me very happy with its effectiveness and hydration. My score for this product is an 8.5/10!
