Hey Cherries! For those who don't know me yet: my name is Sabrina, and I go by the name SabrinaLaCherry in the blogging world. Welcome, everyone, to my review of the NYX Professional Makeup Smushy Matte Lip Balm!

The product has been released in 12 different colors. I have listed all the original colors for you below, but the only one from the original colors that you will see me using is color 06, "Soft Smile."

I’m also going to review a shade from the limited-edition M&M collaboration, which is still available here and there. So, if you’re curious, grab yours in stores while you can—after all, NYX previously launched a "The Simpsons" collaboration featuring this same product.

Personally, I don't feel the need to get everything from a limited-edition collaboration with a cosmetics brand. So, I managed to show some restraint this time and bought just one 'blind bag'. It really is a true 'blind bag', too, because you can't see through it at all—not even in the brightest light. That means I have no idea what I'm going to get. Let's find out which color I'm lucky enough to land (^_^)

Below, you can see the 'blind bag' I bought. I had already started tearing it open when I thought: "Wait a minute, Sabrina. You forgot to take a picture of the back." The tear in the next photo wasn't caused by clumsiness, but by my enthusiasm—hahaha!

The 'blind bag' has spoken. I was lucky enough to get 'Mr. Red'! This means I get to review a semi-coverage red—specifically, shade 06, "Soft Smile." Deep down, I had secretly hoped for green, yellow, or blue so I could compare a less cover shade with a true semi-coverage one, but I’m very happy with this one too!

 

Packaging and promises
The Smushy Lip Balm comes in a small squeeze tube containing 8ml of product. Each matte lip balm shade features packaging in a matching color, meaning the tubes are unique on the outside as well as the inside. What I really appreciate about the packaging is the flat base of the cap, which allows the tube to stand upright on a table. It’s convenient for use at home or at work (if you have an office job).

Reality

Both are semi-sheer, though you can certainly build up the color for a more intense look. The lip balms have a soft finish and don't feel like a heavy layer on your lips. They definitely live up to the promise of buildable coverage and a soft, comfortable feel! Each shade has its own unique scent, but the ones for "Soft Smile" and "Red" are absolutely heavenly. You really have to discover them for yourself when you're in the store looking for your perfect shade!

The only downside I’ve found with this product is that it can be drying on the lips after prolonged use. While it seems ideal for everyday wear, the experience might differ for those whose lips tend to dry out easily; for them, daily use isn't recommended—or it's best to apply a hydrating lip balm or oil beforehand.

Personal opinion and rating
My personal rating for this product is a 9/10! If I had to describe this product in just one word, it would literally be: "WOW!" Personally, I didn't think I'd like this lip balm—as I usually prefer hydrating balms, either tinted or clear—but I was proven wrong. It lives up to all its promises, and there are plenty of shades to choose from. Of course, you do need to touch up the color after eating or drinking, just as with any lip balm. There's definitely a shade for everyone, so all that's left for me is to recommend heading to your nearest drugstore or Douglas store (^_^)
