MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot (Soft Ochre)
06-03-2022

Hey Cherries and welcome to my MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot review. In my review I use the color Soft Ochre (^.^) The Pro Longwear Paint Pot has been around for years on the cosmetics market and is considered one of the very best eye primers in the world! This product also comes in many different colors to choose from. I chose a color with a yellow undertone which is natural, because I mostly work with natural eyeshadow colors. That makes it easier for me to build things up. If you like to work with dark eyeshadow colors, it is best to go for a paint pot with a deeper color.

The main features of the Pro Longwear Paint Pot are:

  • Palm oil free
  • Free from Parabens
  • Preservatives free
  • Sulfate free
  • Non alcoholic
  • Without oily ingredients
  • Gluten free
  • Free from acetone
  • Lactose-free
  • Suitable for even sensitive skin
  • Without traces of nuts
  • Ammonia free
  • Phthalate-free

For your information:
Many people assume that MAC Cosmetics cosmetics are not cruelty-free. Remember that MAC Cosmetics does not conduct animal testing. They have no facilities where animal testing is performed and never ask others to do this on their behalf. There are governments that conduct animal testing to prove the safety of MAC Cosmetics products before granting approval for sale, but M·A·C does not conduct these itself. They even work with an agency to combat animal testing in the world. If you do not feel comfortable with this, I would kindly ask you not to read my review about this product.

The following is told about the Pro Longwear Paint Pot:

"A highly pigmented, long-wearing eyeshadow from M∙A∙C that is creamy on application and intense and vibrant once it dries. This innovative formula feels like a second skin and glides effortlessly over lids for seamless coverage that doesn't appear heavy or clumpy. The superior color remains colorfast and will not run out or accumulate in the creases of your eyelid. Pro Longwear Paint Pot can be mixed with other products such as M∙A∙C eyeshadows and liners. This product can be applied with the fingers or a brush. Also good to use as a normal eye primer".

The packaging of the Pro Longwear Paint Pot is a small glass jar with the product and a black lid. Looks simple.

The texture of the Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre is a cream texture, but on the dry side. When you run your finger over it... It seems to go to a mousse texture, but at the same time it's not a mousse texture. Goes a bit rough. I personally find the texture a bit strange, because when you apply it on the eyes, it spreads very nicely.

My advice with this product is to work quickly, because it dries quickly and the color Soft Ochre gives a matte finish. If you naturally have dry eyelids, I wouldn't recommend this color with texture.

This product can be applied with your fingers or a brush.

Review MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot As Eyeshadow:

According to MAC Cosmetics, this product can also be used as a daily eyeshadow in addition to an eye primer. I started testing this product as an eyeshadow a few days ago. I didn't feel like doing much makeup in the early morning. So I left my face by my daily makeup base, eyebrows, lipstick (which has faded a bit in the photo below) and of course for this review, the Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. Other than that, nothing has been used on my face.

I had applied the product all over my eyelids. Also a bit on the creases and I found it to give a nice matte finish. As mentioned before, the color, Soft Ochre, is a very natural color with a yellow undertone. So don't expect too much from the color if you want to use this as a regular eyeshadow. Personally, I like to use eyeshadow colors that look more natural. If you work more with extreme or dark eyeshadow colors, it is better to go for the somewhat dark colors from the Paint Pot collection, but you can also simply build it up over the Soft Ochre. It's a personal choice.

In the beginning I was very satisfied with the finish. It looked nice and even. Not cakey or lumpy at all. Camouflaged redness and visible veins well. You didn't really see it anymore. It was exactly how you expected a cream eyeshadow to be.

After about 4 hours it started to change for me. It accumulated in the eye creases and I actually had a "lumpy" line in my eye creases. This has never happened to me with an eye primer before. The camouflage had also partly decreased. It didn't feel good on my eyes anymore. After 6 hours everything was gone and what was left looked cakey. You can also see this in the photos below. Very unfortunate!

I ended up not being a fan of it at all as an eyeshadow. It really disappointed me in that regard. I personally would not recommend this product as a regular eyeshadow for everyday wear. But as an eye primer???? Scroll down for that.

Review MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot As Eye Primer:
PS Don't mind the speck of mascara on one of my eyelids. I always manage to do this again, hahahaha! XD

The MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot as an eyeshadow was a total letdown for me. So I wasn't very confident about using it as an eye primer. Before using as an eye primer, I applied the product all over my lids, crease up to my eyebrows, because if I want to emphasize my eyes instead of my lips, I go for a full look on my eyes. Then I applied my eyeshadow. I stuck with natural, metallic eyeshadow colors. Ideal for an everyday look!

It was very easy to apply eyeshadow over the primer. It glided smoothly and within minutes everything was done. The end result in the beginning was very even, the eyeshadow colors came out beautifully and the metallic glow was strongly present. Really great!

I actually went through a really long day that day and at the end of the day my eyeshadow lasted well. The only thing I noticed was that it continued to clump in the folds of the eyes. There too I had some build-up of the eye primer in combination with some eye shadow, but everything else stayed in place. If I didn't blink or close my eyes, the buildup wouldn't even be noticeable.

My personal opinion and score

The MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot has generally not blown me away. It's an okay product in my eyes. It's a good product as an eye primer, but looking at the whole picture of this product, I don't think it's worth the price for this product. You're sure to find cheaper options or an eye primer in the same price range that's worth every penny. My sincere apologies to anyone who really thinks this product is awesome, as it's generally very well regarded in the market, but it just wasn't good enough for me. I got a — meh, okay — feel about this, but I'll finish up the eye primer, because I don't have any other eye primers at the moment.

Despite my honest and personal opinion about this product, I would recommend this product for the people who suffer from oily eyelids, as the product gives a very matte finish. I would absolutely not recommend it for people who experience dryness on the eyes. I would also recommend this product for people who suffer from redness and/or visible veins on the eyes. This product completely camouflages it. You don't see any of those problems anymore. Also contributes well to uneven skin on the eyelids.

My personal score for this product is a 7/10!
