NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss

Hi Cherries and welcome to my review of the NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss. Several of you have read my "what's in my makeup bag" blog post, which features this product. As a result of your questions, I have decided to make a review. So in this review I show you one of my favorite lip glosses ever! On the left you see the colors that I personally use the most from all the colors that are available.

 

The NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss is available in 29 different shades, 13 of which are sold at the local Douglas (in the Netherlands). There are also webshops where you can order multiple colors (^.^)

 

 

According to NYX Professional Makeup, this lip gloss should feel buttery and silky smooth on the lips. The brand describes the taste of this lip gloss as a sugar cookie. The product should melt on the lips and not stick. Before I go into this (the promises) substantively, I think it would be wise to show you my most used colors. You may want to try the colors below or the lipgloss in a different color (^.^)

 

Out of all 29 shades, these 5 are my top favorites:
#02 ECLAIR
#07 TIRAMISU
#13 FORTUNE COOKIE (also known in some countries as biscuit chinois)
#14 MADELEINE
#15 ANGEL FOOD CAKE (also known in some countries as Gâteau des anges)

 

On the left photo you will find the names incl. numbers of the lipglosses. On the right photo, on my inner arm you will find the swatches of all my 5 lipglosses. When you scroll down you will see how the colors come out on my lips. This is when you apply it normally. I'm also going to tell you what the colors really are like.

#02 Éclair

Éclair is my number 1 favorite color out of all 5 lip glosses I have. I find myself using this color the most. Very nice to use alone, but also in combination with an underlying lip balm which has a pink shade.

 

Éclair has a pink tint. A baby pink shade at first, but this dramatic effect fades once it has become more attached to your lips. As you can see on the left, it looks quite natural with medium coverage. You can make the color more dramatic by applying a second layer, but this would honestly be a waste of this lip gloss. Then you can rather apply an underlying colored balm or lipstick.

 

This color lasts a very long time and stays put. Of course if you don't drink too much from a glass or go out all day for food.

 

 

 

#07 Tiramisu 

Tiramisu is categorized as brown by NYX Professional makeup, but to be honest, I don't see a brown shade in the lip gloss. The casing has a bit of a brown shade, but not the color of the gloss itself. Maybe it's because of my own natural lip color, because Tiramisu is very similar to my natural lip color. For me this is more of a boost and I like to use it when I have put on a dramatic eye look or a look for going out for example and don't want my lips to stand out too much.

 

In my view it must be quite balanced with me, because I find it terrible with myself when everything comes across as very dramatic.

This color also lasts a very long time and stays on well.

 

 

#13 Fortune Cookie (Biscuit Chinois)

Fortune Cookie is one of the best-selling colors in the entire collection. It is a normal nude color. Matches any natural outfit or "no makeup" look. Fun for any season! Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to go for a natural look.

 

At first the color comes across as clear and you can notice some glitter, but these glitters are very neutral. So it's not that you have a very shining look. When it clings more to the lips, the color changes to normal nude, as in the photo on the left.

 

So it is very natural, but unfortunately can fade quickly.

 

#14 Madeleine 

The color Madeleine is a light brown color. It looks more like a Mild-Tone Nude color. Also very natural in general and goes well with beige, brown and (warm) nude tones. Also very nice with some dark looks! I prefer to use this in the fall and winter season. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves a brown lip color.

 

This one stays in place a bit better than number 13, but unfortunately can also fade quickly. I notice that when I use this...I also have to update it as often as number 13. Of course it also depends on how much you drink or eat. Some days are different from other days. So there are several factors involved in the longevity.

 

 

#15 Angel Food Cake (Gâteau des anges)

Angel Food Cake's color is described by NYX Professional Makeup as Mauve (light purple), which can also be seen in the color. This color is often compared to Tiramisu, but they are clearly not the same colors. If you like a purple shade in your lip collection / lip colors then this one is for you!

 

Can be used throughout the day as well as for a romantic or even dramatic look. The color looks more like vintage rose to me. Very similar to the vintage rose lip colors that were present in the 90s, but in lip gloss form. So it may turn out to be something different on everyone's lips, but definitely worth having in your collection!

 

Besides Éclair, I also use this color very often and it goes well with an underlying lip balm or lipstick.

 

Promises

As stated before, NYX Professional Makeup promises that the Butter gloss (no matter what color) should feel buttery and silky smooth on the lips. The brand describes the taste of this lip gloss as a sugar cookie. The product should melt on the lips and not stick. From my experience with NYX's Butter gloss lip gloss, I must admit that it keeps most of its promises. The only promise it doesn't keep is that it wouldn't stick. This lip gloss is sticky at first. Of course, this will disappear after a while when you go through the day and have drunk a few glasses of water.

 

The longevity of the lip gloss again depends on how you go through the day. When you drink or eat a lot, the lip gloss fades faster than you are used to. When you keep it normal, it generally lasts a long time. Especially when you have an underlying lip balm, lipstick or even lip pencil. It is true that the dark colors last longer than the lighter colors. For example, I find that I need to update numbers 13 and 14 more often. Although I keep it normal, but I also believe that it can be different for everyone. So give it a try if you're interested in this! (^.^)

 

My personal opinion and score
The NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss is personally one of my favorite lip glosses ever. Have a good experience with it. I prefer these kind of glosses over shimmer, suede or matte lip glosses. So you're more likely to spot me wearing a NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss in public than any other gloss. Although I do have one from another brand that I'll be reviewing soon (upon requests!) So maybe one day it will go to two favorite lip glosses.

 

I rather recommend the Butter Gloss to people who like a typical natural look, because the coverage of this gloss is not high. It gives a medium coverage that falls out naturally. You can add another layer on top for a more dramatic effect, but in my opinion it's a waste of this lip gloss, because it wears off faster. It is better to use an underlying lipstick or colored balm. I definitely do not recommend this gloss to the people who prefer a shimmery look (glitter lip gloss) or a typical full lip gloss as it will bring you disappointment.

 

My personal score for this product is a 9,5/10!
