Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original VS Eden)
21-12-2020

Heey Cherries and welcome to my review about the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion! In total there are 5 different potions on the market, but today I'm going to go through two of them. The "Orignal" and "Eden" (^_^)

The five varieties of the Eyeshadow Primer Potion are as follows:
1. Original
2. Eden
3. Sin
4. Caffeine
5. Anti-Aging
PS previously there were 8 variants. The others were called "Fix", "Enigma" and "Freebase". Especially Freebase was asked to review a
few times, but I can't find it anywhere anymore. So I also believe these are no longer made by Urban Decay.

The original idea was actually to mix this review with the "Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette", but this ended up being too long. So I decided to make two separate reviews. The review for the Naked3 palette is also available on my blog. For this you can go back to the Urban Decay page.

Casing

The Eyeshadow Primer Potion from Urban Decay has been a big favorite of several beauty influencers such as make-up artists/gurus on YouTube for years. I still remember how it used to come in a bottle. The old packaging really gave me a luxurious Arabian feeling. Probably because of the cap, but I had never tried this primer potion before, because I felt I didn't need it as a teenage girl at the time. Also, I never had an oily skin type of my own. So an oily eyelid was never a problem for me in the past. Now that I'm getting older, I notice that eyeshadow doesn't stay as well as it did before. So I decide to use eye primers from now on.

The packaging of all primer potions has changed a lot over the years! As indicated earlier, the product previously came in a bottle with a wand. Everyone loved the packaging because it looked so luxurious and unique at the time. However, there was also a lot of criticism from both professionals and women who used it. The packaging left a lot of product in the bottle. On YouTube you will probably come across old videos where women show how to cut the bottle and remove the product. Urban Decay decided to change the packaging after criticism.

Then the squeeze tubes (middle photo) came into view. There was generally little criticism of this. Everyone could find their favorite primer potion and the colors had not changed, but there were still women who reported missing an applicator.

Ultimately, Urban Decay decided to come up with the current packaging (as far as I can tell, there will be no new packaging yet). Of which the best of both worlds is available. Both squeeze tube and wand in 1 package. So you can choose to apply the product with the applicator or to squeeze the tube. Unfortunately, this packaging also receives criticism, as there are women who don't know that this tube is also intended for squeezing. They think you can only apply the product with the applicator.

The content of a normal package is 11ml.

Texture and color (Original VS Eden)

Original: The color of the "Original" can be compared to a light skin color. It's almost invisible on my skin tone. Because the "original" dries invisibly, it can be applied to any skin color, which is very ideal. If you can't make a choice like me or you are afraid that the other one is "too much", then the original is a good one to start with. The texture is a bit greasy in my opinion, but it spreads very nicely! It also gives a smooth finish before applying eyeshadow.

Eden: Eden has a distinct color. It's a striking nude beige color with a thick texture. This one is harder to spread in my opinion, but it does provide more coverage than the original. It doesn't dry invisibly. It remains the color as known. It also gives a matte finish before applying eyeshadow.

Product description / promises
Urban Decay: “Once you've tried our legendary Eyeshadow Primer Potion, you'll never want to be without it. The paraben-free formula applies smoothly to the skin, brightens the color of the eyeshadow and fills in fine lines. Last day. Choose your favorite primer or put them all in your makeup bag so that you always have enough choice. Our Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original is suitable for all skin tones and dries invisibly. Eden has a nude-matte finish, gives full coverage and hides redness ".

PS In the photos below (without eye makeup) I have not blended both primer potions with my fingers. Only applied with an applicator.

Personal opinion and score
The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potions in "Original" and "Eden" in my opinion both deliver on the promises that Urban Decay makes. Eyeshadow stays on all day with both versions and also have a very nice finish! Of course both slightly different. It's just what you want and/or need. So I'll let you know below which one is best for whom.

Original: I recommend the Original (purple tube) for people who don't really know which one they want to go for or for beginners. I was also very doubtful between both this and Eden. That's why I bought both. The Original spreads very nicely and gives a soft finish. The only disadvantage is that it can appear a bit greasy. Eyeshadow and/or eyeliner is easy to spread on this primer potion and if I have to compare it with Eden, this is really the easiest of the two. It dries invisibly, allowing it to be applied to any skin tone. This is also the primer potion that started it all.

Eden: I recommend Eden (beige tube) for people who, just like me, have redness on their face. Especially on the eyelids. Also very ideal for people who suffer from visible veins on the eyelids. This primer potion will cover it completely. You no longer see any redness or veins. Compared to the Original, it's more difficult to spread. This is mainly due to the thick texture. The thick texture is necessary to give the promising finish which it does. It also makes it slightly more difficult to apply eyeshadow and/or eyeliner. Despite these disadvantages, it also lasts all day. Eden's finish is not soft, but matt. Cannot be applied to all skin tones unfortunately.

My personal scores aren't based on comparisons between both primer potions, but on the primer potions individually. It's based on both the promises and disadvantages. The Original scores a 9.5/10 with me! Eden scores a 9/10 with me!
