YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil
03-01-2022
Hey Cherries! Today I'm going to do a first impression review on the YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil which I came across online when I was looking for new lip products for the winter. I always have dry lips quickly and I take good care of them. While looking for color and balm/oil in one, I came across this. These were on sale by the way. Normally you pay between €20,- and €30,- for 1 tint-in-oil. I bought three of these for €35,-, which is a huge difference! I bought them in the following colors which appeal to me the most (in order in the photo):
# 7 Crush Me Orange
# 8 Pink About Me
# 11 Love Me Nude
This product has many colors available. The last number I came across is 22. So I think this product comes with 22 different colors in total. As far as I have been able to determine, this product comes in the most neutral to dark shades. So there is definitely a color or more for everyone.
The website (official point for YSL makeup and products) where I bought these tint-in-oils describes the product as follows:
"The YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil from Yves Saint Laurent Beauté is the first lip oil infused with color. YSL tries to achieve the impossible
by bringing oil and tint (which are opposites) together in a lip gloss. This is achieved through a unique technology called, "Colour Link Infuser". This technology ensures that dust particles of one color are evenly soaked in oil. This creates this unique formula, where you not only take care of the lips, but also have a nice color left."
Okay... The description answered my question as to how you even manage to get oil and tint together XD I'm actually really curious about how the colors turn out and how the product works exactly. So let's take a look at it together (^.^)
Casing, texture and fragrance
The casing of the YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil is actually very simple, but also typical YSL in terms of the wide color ring with the logo. The case is mostly silver and the color ring indicates the color it comes in.
When we open the lip gloss and remove the cap, a rather unusual applicator appears. It is not a normal sponge applicator which is present in most lip glosses in the world. The applicator comes in the form of the lips (?) and it bends. Unfortunately I couldn't get my camera focused on the side where you could see it really well, but I was able to get it focused on the front. So below you can see the applicator of all three tint-in-oils from the front. Of course in order, as above.
The smell of this product is not special at all. I would have thought that all three had a special scent. Apart from the luxurious case, colors and applicator, but it is a normal oil smell with a little bit of perfume. I smell the same oil scent with all three tint-in-oils.
On the contrary of the smell, the colors are very special. They come out exactly as on the color rings, on the swatches below. Of course, they can look different on the lips. I'm really curious about that!
When you apply the product, you mainly notice the oil in this product. The color is not fully visible yet, but this will become clearly visible the longer you keep this product. After about 5 minutes the color has developed to its maximum, which you can see in the second photo. In the third photo I wiped the swatches with a piece of paper and you can see that it is pure oil.
In the photos below I have tried all three colors in order of the numbers. So first 7. Then 8 and finally number 11. I didn't apply them one after the other. I waited until one had completely faded during the day and then continued with another color. So I can tell exactly how long a certain color has held and how the product really is (^.^)
#7 Crush Me Orange:
To be honest, this one disappointed me the most out of all three colors. On the contrary, I had high hopes for this color because I hadn't actually worn an orange lip color for a very long time and once I saw the swatch of this color, it seemed to go deep orange. However, it doesn't come across as orange at all on my lips and the color doesn't seem to go as deep as on my arm. It comes out on my lips as a light beige nude color, but with a bright shine through the oil. This one didn't last me long either. After the oil was all gone, there was no tint left. This color has given me up to 2 hours. I think it's a shame, but I think I'm going to finish this one first. I'm going to use this at home to take care of my lips during the day or when I work at home for a day. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't pay the full price for this. Maybe this is just because of my natural lip color, but unfortunately it just wasn't the color for me :(
#8 Pink About Me:
In contrast to color 7, I'm very satisfied with the Pink About Me color. It is exactly the color of the color ring. An incredibly light, soft pink, but bright color at the same time. This color has held me the longest out of all three the shades. Max. 6 hours! It was only here that I could see the effect of the product properly. It first moisturizes the lips well with the oil and once the nourishing oil has been absorbed by the lips, it leaves a strong light pink shade on the lips which lasts for a long time. I personally think it's a very nice color and I will definitely buy it again! (^.^)
#11 Love Me Nude:
In second place is number 11! The color of Love Me Nude has also blown me away that I can declare it a winner! The color falls out on my lips exactly as it does on the color ring. It is a shade darker than my natural lip color, which gives my lips a boost to glow. I also find this one to create a very beautiful color once the oil has been absorbed by my lips. Love Me Nude has managed to stay on my lips for up to 5 hours! (^.^)
My personal opinion and score
I recommend the YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil to people who are looking for a nourishing lip product with color. What is very important to remember is that this product is mainly oil! It takes max. 1 hour, until the oil is completely absorbed by the lips. Remember this is a lip gloss. So you have to keep applying it when you eat or drink a lot. You must like to work with oil or not mind wearing oil on the lips. It's a NO GO anyway for people who don't like oil in general.
What I also want to say is that you should take a good look at your own natural lip color, because the orange color is clearly a flop for me, but the pink shades have done very well. Maybe you have a natural lip color, where the orange color works well. Do you understand what I mean? So be aware of this, because the product itself is pricey when you pay full price for it and while I was happy with the two shades, the hydration and the care, I don't think this product is worth the whole price. I think you can get better YSL lip products for the whole price.
Overall, I think this product is okay. I understand the concept that YSL is trying to create with this product and it has worked out well, but I don't think it has the wow factor that I'm used to from YSL. My personal score for this product is a 7.5/10!
