KYLIE COSMETICS Matte Lip Kit (808 Kylie)

Hi Cherries and welcome to my review of the Matte Lip Kit from Kylie Cosmetics which several of you have requested. There have also been Cherries who have asked me to review a different kind of lip product than creamy lip gloss. So here's something new. I'm also looking forward to trying this product!

 

Of course, this product has been on the cosmetics market for quite some time (always wanted to try it out), but it took quite a while, until it was finally available in the Netherlands. For the people who don't know where to get these in the Netherlands, you can get it at the nearest Douglas. It is also available at Douglas online, but I recommend visiting a store as some of the colors online don't match with what I've seen in the store.

 

My eyes quickly fell on the shade "808 Kylie". It is a real classic from all the colors. I find that when I buy a lip gloss, I very often tend to go for pinks or browns. This lip kit should be a combination of both. So I'm very curious! A fun fact is that this color is also a huge favorite of Kylie Jenner herself.

 

 

 

 

 

Casing
Although the light pink background remains the same on all cases, the case for the KYLIE COSMETICS Matte Lip kit looks different for each color. Since the color "808 kylie" should be a combination of brown and pink, my box looks like the pictures below. You can enlarge the photos by clicking on them (computer mode).

When we open the box, we see a nice separation between the lip gloss and lip liner. Both with a light pink casing. It looks feminine and fresh. I honestly like this case much better than the old case. I always thought the old casing looked super dark for the products themselves. It just wasn't right in my opinion and this just gives a refreshed feeling.

 

The lip gloss contains a normal applicator and the scent of a sugar cookie. It reminds me a lot of the scent that is also present with the NYX Professional Makeup Butter gloss. Sweet!

The lip liner is actually a normal lip liner that you have to sharpen. It has no sharp point. You can immediately see that it is a cream texture.

In the photos below you can see how I transformed my natural lips into a matte look. Obviously my lips are not as full as Kylie's. So with me it looks completely different, but I LIKE IT! When I swatched both products on my arm, I thought the combination was special. They are both super nice colors, but I found the lip liner too brown compared to the vintage pink color. So I wasn't too sure if it would be a nice combination on my lips, but I'm super surprised. It goes very nicely together!

The application of the lip liner went smoothly. It spreads out super nicely. Exactly, as Kylie describes it. LOVE IT! The application of the lip gloss also went smoothly. It felt soft on the lips at first, but it dried out quickly to a matte finish (which is what it's supposed to be!).

 

KYLIE COSMETICS Matte Lip Kit (lip liner + lip gloss) gives exactly the finish that Kylie Jenner promises us. Very matte finish. It will be ideal for some, but not for others.

 

I don't normally go for a very matte finish, but I have to admit that the finish is really nice. A combination of both makes your lips look fuller and it has a high coverage.

 

However, the lipstick makes the natural, fine lines of your lips stand out. The longer you keep the lipstick on your lips, the more you will feel uncomfortable with the dryness. There will probably be people who are not bothered by it, but I myself did not like the feeling on my lips.

 

 

*10 hours later*
Unfortunately, I couldn't keep the product on my lips any longer. My lips had become too dry from this product and I wanted to take it off my lips quickly! You can also see that I started to get chapped lips. 

 

I went through the day quite normally. The weather wasn't too great, but you could do with it. I made sure to keep on drinking and eating enough. The lipstick has faded a lot. Especially on my lower lip. However, the lip liner stayed on very well. This really surprised me, because normally lip liner goes away first on my lips. That's why I never do lip liners anymore, because I think it's a waste of my money, but this lip liner is really great! The big winner from Kylie's lip kit!

My personal opinion and score
The KYLIE COSMETICS Matte Lip Kit is the ideal lip kit for anyone who loves a very matte lip look and wants to make the lips look fuller. Also ideal, because it can stay for quite a long time. Water and food hardly do anything. I think it can only fade quickly when you eat fried food because it has oil in it, but the longevity is how Kylie promises! I don't recommend the lip kit for people who prefer natural looks or who suffer from dry lips, because you will not be happy with this lip kit.

 

If, for example, you are not fond of lip liners, but you do want to go for the lip gloss, there is of course also the possibility to buy it separately. The same goes for Kylie's lip liners. You pay €19.99 for the lip gloss separately. You pay €12.99 for the lip liner.

 

The price of Kylie's lip kit is slightly cheaper than buying it separately. You pay €29.99 for a lip kit. I think this is a reasonable price for a "high end" cosmetic brand. Usually you'll pay much more for lip kits from other high-end cosmetic brands. Especially if you're going to buy it separately. Conclusion is that this is a good deal!

 

Unfortunately, Kylie's lip kit itself is not a repeat for me, because I notice that it dries out my lips. By this I mainly mean the lip stick, but I have become a fan of the lip liner. It is not very drying and lasts a very long time. If I ever really start to use lip liners again in my life and by that I mean build up a collection for my makeup bag, I would definitely get this one again! The lip liner is a real winner in my opinion! Had to really struggle to get it off my lips. My personal score for the lip kit as a whole is an 8/10!
