I'm back with a whole new cushion review for today and this is also a review that I have promised since the Karadium Cover Mesh Cushion review. The reason why I'm reviewing the very first YSL cushion is not only because the container of the Karadium Cover Mesh Cushion reminds me a lot of this cushion, but also because I personally think I should review it earlier than the newer YSL cushion. Personally, I always like it better when you start with the original cushion and then follow with the rest. Cushions in both American, English and European brands are relatively rare. So that makes it extra interesting. I have noticed that it's slowly starting to grow. I hope that in Europe we will get more cushions, because I'm quite dependent on cushions every day. It's easy, convenient and especially when you have to get up early for work (since I'm in the office early and I'm  die hard).

 

As I indicated in the first piece, this is the very first YSL cushion. It's called the YSL Fusion Ink Cushion, but it's better known for its French name and I chose the color 10. This is the lightest color available and it's normally #21 that we know in Korean cushions. #21 in Korea is the second lightest color available. In total, this cushion comes with 6 colors to choose from: 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60

Unfortunately, the numbers have no names, but number 60 is the darkest color available. So it's really a matter of feeling when you fall in between. I personally recommend going to Douglas or Ici Paris XL and then trying out the foundation colors. I did this and I knew that I had to go for number 10 and not number 20, but this is of course entirely up to you. It could also be that you gamble and immediately have the right color :)

Packaging
The YSL container is exactly what you expect from YSL. Mysterious, luxury, gold and top quality! It has a button opening which I can always appreciate with cushions that have this and it has a cute, small applicator. I thought the applicator of Karadium was small, but YSL has surpassed it. However, the small applicator does fit with this cushion, because once again you open the cushion, the circle is just as small. A pity that the mirror was not protected with foil, but for the rest no note. I think the container is really beautiful, because black is my color anyway and gold is the lucky color of my zodiac sign. So it's meant to be! XD

 

Texture and odor
The texture is exactly what it says in the name which is inky. So a bit on the watery side, but good enough to give decent coverage. The scent of this cushion is wonderful. You should smell it!

I have not yet applied the product to the photos below. The only thing I have on my face is a balancing cream and eye cream. The balancing cream is from Innisfree with green tea and my current eye cream is from the brand It Skin and it comes from the 'collagen' series ^_^

I then applied the product to my face! The YSL Fusion Ink Cushion provides medium coverage with a natural glow. My skin looks very natural covered and I like the finish to be honest. It' a very different finish than I'm used to, but it's super beautiful! It doesn't cover all the impurities or redness, but it makes my face look fresh somehow. Conclusion is a nicely refreshed picture.

 

Regarding the entire application process .... This was totally flawless! A very soft applicator and the product is easy to apply to the face. It blends nicely and it felt great to work with this cushion. It just felt really nice on my face, but I think this is mainly due to the applicator of this cushion.

* 10 hours later *
In total I kept this product on my face for 10 hours and it still looked very good! This product has not adhered in my pores, but a little bit in a few dry spots. For the rest it actually looked like as in the beginning. So what I mainly did today was I went to the store. I needed new earphones, because the left earphone of my old earphones was broken and I can't live without my music in the morning. Whether I'm in the car or on public transport... I have to have music, because that really wakes me up ^_^ Later in the day I went out to eat at my old work. I worked there for a total of 4 years and I enjoyed seeing a few old colleagues again after a long time. When I walked into the kitchen it was as if I had not left. I had such that kind of feeling, hahahaha! It's also nice to see new faces walking around now. So it was crazy for both a few colleagues and me about how fast time can go and we all wish each other the best. The food was delicious and the pictures below show how good the product looks at the end of the day.

YSL doesn't really give any promises about this cushion foundation, except that it can stay on the face for a long time and it does. So basically following the promise of what I normally do, I give you the pros and cons of this cushion.

 

Pros:

  • Remains on the face for a long time and doesn't melt easily
  • Doesn't give off much on the edges of the glasses. This is a big advantage for people who wear glasses!
  • Gives a natural glow
  • Leaves the skin looking natural and fresh
  • Medium coverage
  • Application process is flawless
  • Feels very light on the face
  • Has a nice scent
  • Contains SPF23 and PA ++
  • Refills are available!
  • Top quality!

 

Cons:

  • The foundation oxidizes quickly. Because I have fair skin, number 10 doesn't stand out much in terms of oxidation, but this will be visible in the medium shades. What's an advantage with this problem is that it's easy to fix with powder.
  • The medium coverage cannot be built up to high.
  • Pricey (which is to be expected from a brand such as YSL)

 

Personal opinion and score
The YSL cushion is exactly as I had imagined. A cushion foundation of top quality, long-lasting and a beautiful finish. The container will definitely not break easily and what I really appreciate is that it sells refills. So you don't have to throw the container away and continuously pay the full price for a new container. In addition, this cushion comes in 6 colors from light to dark. So everyone can choose what best suits his or her skin color! I don't have much to say about this cushion either, because I'm very happy with it. Apart from the disadvantages, I also have no comments to add. So I definitely recommend this cushion to everyone and I give it a total score of  a 9.5/10!
